D-Day 80 Memorial

This is a special place for you to share memories and photos of your loved ones who were involved in D-Day - and the wider war effort.

“…the spirit of the people, resolute, dedicated, burned like a bright flame, lit surely from those unseen fires which nothing can quench.”  King George VI, 6 June 1944 (D-Day)

Aisha Noor kept WW2 POWs alive while in camps during the war in Malaysia. She smuggled food into the camps to feed Allied Servicemen. This earned her the name Jungle Queen amongst the men. She passed away in 2018 at the age of 103 and was still known to her family as Tok Jungle. My father tells me of a story of how, many years after the war a group of Veterans returned looking for her. They took her out on the town to thank her for keeping them alive. A truly remarkable woman.
