Both father and son were present in Normandy on D-Day. Acting CPO Dunlop Brown, a highly distinguished engineer who had contributed significantly to the war effort, including Operation Pluto, volunteered as an "experienced sailor" to command an auxiliary delivering personnel around the assembled fleet. The other crew were a retired RearAdm engineer, as stoker and a civilian communist as seaman. Engineer son Robert was also there, coincidentally executing part of his father's secret D-day plans
