D-Day 80 Memorial

This is a special place for you to share memories and photos of your loved ones who were involved in D-Day - and the wider war effort.

“…the spirit of the people, resolute, dedicated, burned like a bright flame, lit surely from those unseen fires which nothing can quench.”  King George VI, 6 June 1944 (D-Day)

My grand father, called up just before D Day, aged 40. He joined the RAMC. He went across the channel a few days after the initial landings. The places he mentioned seemed to follow the Rhine. This photo was taken in Dusseldorf, possibly after hostilities ended. He survived but he dropped dead Christmas day 1957. Thank you for your brave service.
