Private 14513483 A T Garrod. Bert joined the Pioneer Corp he was assigned to the Canadian, Winnipeg and Regina regiment as a driver. June 1944 his regiment set off from Southampton and then anchored off Isle of Wight. On June 6th they stormed Juno beach dad remained reluctant to recall the horrors. Dad became a dispatch rider and was awarded the British Empire Medal with citation for outstanding devotion to duty. Bert also received the Legion of Honour. As a family we remain so very proud.
