This is a special place for you to share memories and photos of your loved ones who were involved in D-Day - and the wider war effort.

“…the spirit of the people, resolute, dedicated, burned like a bright flame, lit surely from those unseen fires which nothing can quench.”  King George VI, 6 June 1944 (D-Day)

My father was born in 1923 and joined the army, as a boy soldier. Initially he served in Ireland. He left from Newhaven Harbour and landed on Sword Beach, to liberate Caen. He was missing in action and presumed dead. But he did return home and served in Palestine before being demobbed. He suffered from shell shock, but he was never treated. Sometimes he would scream in his sleep at night. It was terrifying. He wrote about some of his experiences in a small book.
