This is my great uncle Private John Welsh who went across to Normandy on his 22nd birthday and served with the South Lancashire Regiment on Sword beach. He survived the initial landings on the beach and made it inland where he fought fir the next 3 weeks. Sadly whilst on a routine patrol on what was a quiet day considering he was shot at and died from his wounds on 29th June 1944,he is buried at Hermanville War Cemetery alongside many of his fellow soldiers he served with. Lest We Forget
