My grandfather landed in the early hours on Juno Beach 6th June. He was a gunner aboard LST 419 were he assisted in the invasion forces landing the Canadians on Juno. When receiving his Legion D’honneur medal he spoke of ‘Sheer Bloody Murder’ on that first wave. We as a family are very thankful he and other young men of his generation fought to free us from the evil that engulfed the world and to help us live free.
