Dad was 2nd SO of 15th M/S Flotilla. Early morning June 6th, swept mines NW of Cherbourg peninsula, challenged by the Germans, ignored them, after several more challenges, they switched on all the navigation lights from Caen to Le Havre! A bonus, as the swept channel had to be accurate to 100 yards. Dad said it was a bit like mowing the lawn, sweeping up and down the coast, as close as 500 yards up to the beaches. On completion, they stood off for 8 days and nights as cover for the landings.
