(Doreen) Lydia Ellyard (Blashill) Based at Southwick House near Portsmouth with SHAEF, ( Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force),Lydia, a Leading Wren, was one of a select few involved in the production of the D Day Orders for the ship invasion of Normandy. Working 8 hours on and 8 off for many months, days of routine were broken by a visit from both the King and General Eisenhower and a German bombing raid! Lydia’s main complaint was that as she was not yet 21, she was unable to follow the older Wrens to France! Along with other Veterans she was awarded the Legion D’Honeur by a grateful French Government
