My father joined the Navy on 1939 aged 15. Served on HMS Indomitable on the Malta relief convoy. Landed American troops in the first wave at Omaha beach, then later took part in the Walchren landings. He was also on combined ops in Holland. His only physical injury was when a torpedo rolled over his foot.
