My father Stanley Victor Jones originally enlisted with the Sputh Lancashire Voulenters Regiment in 1937 and became batman to an officer. He went to France as part of the BEF and as a result ended up at Dunkirk. Back in England he trained as a medic and transfered to the Royal Emgineers. He crossed the chanel on D Day 6 as a medic with the Royal Engineers to commence the building of the Mulbury Harbour. Later they moved to Antwerp to reopen the docks as the second supply route.
