D-Day 80 Memorial

This is a special place for you to share memories and photos of your loved ones who were involved in D-Day - and the wider war effort.

“…the spirit of the people, resolute, dedicated, burned like a bright flame, lit surely from those unseen fires which nothing can quench.”  King George VI, 6 June 1944 (D-Day)

Our Grandpa was a territorial army officer, mobilised for the war and taking part in the D-Day landings. Like many he never spoke to us about his experiences. We pieced this together from some records we found and what our mum told us. He was in the Royal Army Service Corps, attached to the Northumberland Fusiliers before being seconded into the 3rd (Royal Northumberland Fusiliers) Reconnaissance Corps, landing on Gold Beach before serving throughout Western Europe.
