Dad served on Monitor class HMS Roberts from May 1943 and his ship took part in D Day , bombarding German positions supporting British troops on Sword Beach. Luckily two torpedos went underneath the ships stern on the morning of the 6th June due to it shallow draft. We are so grateful and proud of the bravery shown by those who returned to us and more especially , those who did not .
