Our dad survived and lived to be 97. We miss him and like others, his modesty when we acknowledged his bravery. His grandchildren loved the stories he told. He served on HMS Royal Oak, The Spanish Civil War,1936, aged 16. HMS Bramble, mine sweeping and the Artic convoys, HMS Nasturtium, Battle of the Atlantic and duties in the Adriatic, HMS Avon Vale, the latter being a support ship on D Day at Gold Beach, during WW2. God bless them all.
