This is a special place for you to share memories and photos of your loved ones who were involved in D-Day - and the wider war effort.

“…the spirit of the people, resolute, dedicated, burned like a bright flame, lit surely from those unseen fires which nothing can quench.”  King George VI, 6 June 1944 (D-Day)

My father was a regular soldier of the Royal Artillery. He joined up in 1930 aged 18 and by 1931 was in India. In 1938 he returned to Britain to be part of the war effort. As he was a gunnery instructor he was teaching in the uk up to 1944. On 5 June 1944 he was at Tilbury Docks and landed in France on 8 June. He apparently spent 6 weeks in a field eating potatoes and mushrooms! He died in 1995. I am very proud of my father’s involvement in the Normandy Landings
